Sentinel Project: National Party Congress

The National Party Congress is held every five years in Beijing. Theoretically, it is meant to be the most powerful body with the Chinese Communist Party and the People’s Republic of China. However, the NPC now serves a largely symbolic role, with most power lying in the hands of a few well-placed politicians. While the meeting has been hailed by Chinese media as a chance for the people to be heard, the reality is that most of the results have been decided before the event.
