Early Monday morning, multiple rockets landed near an American oil company's facility near Basra, Iraq. According to Reuters, no injuries or casualties were reported as a result of the strike.
Rocket fire targeting US forces and interests in Iraq is becoming a common occurrence. Iranian-backed militias have regularly targeted bases in the war-torn country which host US forces, and the US Embassy in Baghdad itself. The United States has recently taken a more aggressive stance against such actions by carrying out targeted strikes against militia leadership, and increasing the pressure on Iran to stop supporting such groups via sanctions. A severe response to Monday's aggression would certainly increase instability and tensions in the region.
