Prison systems across the United States are preparing for an influx of COVID-19 cases. After extensive research and planning, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is taking the following measures for federal facilities and is recommending state and country prisons follow the same guidance:
Social visits will be suspended for 30 days.
Telephone minutes for inmates will be increased.
Legal visits will be suspended for 30 days and replaced with confidential phone calls.
Inmate and staff movement between facilities will be halted.
Volunteers will be prohibited from entering facilities.
Staggered meal times and recreation are being implemented as needed by facility.
