Chinese Government Sets New Restrictions on COVID-19 Research

The People's Republic of China has set new restrictions on the publication and dissemination of research relating to COVID-19 online, according to a directive and online notice by the central government. The order, which can be found here, mandates that all studies and papers on the origin and handling of the virus must be approved by the central government. Furthermore, college officials can limit a studies publication to China, and block its spread abroad.

This is just the newest effort by the government in Beijing to block evidence regarding the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused the deaths of more than 100,000 people and infected nearly two million.

An exhaustive investigation by The Intelligence Ledger in March found dozens of examples of the Chinese government intentionally deceiving both the Chinese people and the international community. This campaign of deception severely hindered the opening stages of the international response to the virus, and perhaps even worsened COVID-19s spread at times it could've been halted.
